California Market Match Consortium

We are proud to be at the forefront of the movement in California to provide access to safe, healthy, fresh, and affordable food to everyone, which is the foundation for economic viability for local farmers. market-matchThe Visalia Farmers’ Market Association received funding from the California Department of Food and Agriculture to become a member of the California Market Match Consortium, which is a partnership between a few of the largest and most successful farmers’ market and agricultural training organizations in California.
The purpose of the consortium is to increase the competitiveness of California specialty crops (mainly fruits, vegetables, and nuts) by linking funding allocated by federal nutrition programs directly with local certified agricultural producers at farmers’ markets across the state. These efforts have proven potential to influence the diets and purchasing habits of customers by introducing them to a wider variety of locally grown, affordable produce while at the same time increasing revenue for local certified farmers.
The consortium connects partners across the state with resources needed to facilitate programs by collecting data, supporting operations, and sharing best practices for this pilot program that will be implemented statewide within the next five years. It is via this partnership that our Visalia Farmers Market will have statewide and national impact.
