Recipe submitted by Marilyn Perry of Tulare for the 1989 Visalia Farmers Market Harvest Cookbook.


1 cup sugar

3/4 cup shortening

2 eggs, well beaten

2 tablespoons honey

3 tablespoons water

3 slices pineapple

1 cup raisins

3/4 cup bran

2 1/2 cups flour

2 teaspoons salt

2 teaspoons vanilla

How to Make:

Wash raisins and chop. Dice the pineapple. Cream shortening with sugar. Add eggs, honey and water. Mix thoroughly.

Sift flour, baking powder and salt. Add to first mixture. Add bran, raisins, pineapple and flavoring. Mix thoroughly.

Pour into a shallow, well oiled baking pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes. Cool and cut into squares. Can also be baked as drop cookies. Makes 20 bars.
